Welcome to Day 8 of our 30 day celebration of the 5th Anniversary of Giving Thanks: The Art of Tithing,
by Paula Langguth Ryan – where we’re answering 30 questions about tithing!
I am unemployed and have been looking for a job since Sept. of 2009, I was blessed in the mist with an apartment through a friend (man of God) which I paid with my tax refunds. I`ve been blessed to keep my rent paid with the checks from my school that I was attending. Now I am thanking God for keeping me and I am praying faithfully for a job and a financial breakthrough. I’ve come across this book by Phil Pringle “The Keys to Financial Excellence”, when I stumbled on something I thought I was doing correctly (tithing). Now, it states that I am a thief by not having a job in my house (which is the church). This really bothers me because I don`t want to be a thief in my father’s house. I am not a thief. I am trying to find work and praying and have been prophesied and prayed over. I am not being disobedient and now my question is, what else can I tithe with and how can I sow if I don`t have a job? Please, help me on this…. Thank you, Sheila M.
I’m always a bit perplexed by people who teach tithing as something that’s a duty and obligation and that you are somehow stealing from God if you are not tithing when you don’t have any income coming in. God says tithe from what you receive. If you’re receiving a paycheck, tithe from that. If you receive an unexpected gift, or a rebate or any other form of income, tithe on that when you receive it. You are not cheating God because you don’t have a job.
Fears like that come from tithing instructors who believe that the people who give to the church is where the church’s good comes from. Our good comes from God. We are merely channels of that good, feeding the servants of God who feed us with their messages.
Tithe from your words, your actions, your thoughts, your talents – tithe the way Jesus did by giving thanks with every breath he took, in advance of anything he received. If you don’t already have a copy, get a copy of Giving Thanks: The Art of Tithing and discover how Jesus tithed. It’s on page 22. And get a free copy of the Giving Thanks Tithing Mastery Study Guide if you want more guidance on how to find peace with tithing. You might also want to download the mp3 file or get the CD version of How to Manifest the Right and Perfect Job (or Clients!).
And in case I didn’t say it clearly enough: YOU ARE NOT A THIEF!
Peace and prosperity,
Paula Langguth Ryan
