I attended the “21 Days to a More Abundant Life” on Sunday at Unity Burbank Center. How many minutes are we supposed to use to write down our wants, needs and desires? I thought that Paula had said three but my lists are so much shorter than the one I did Sunday that I’m thinking I mis-remembered.
Thanks
Hi Beth – you’re correct… 3 minutes is the amount of time you dedicate to writing down your wants, needs and desires… the trick is to write as fast as you can, writing down whatever jumps into your mind.. walk yourself through your home, your body, your mind, your heart and whatever pops into your head, write it down… eventually you’ll be able to jot off 39 things you want to be, do or experience that day, or in the coming week or in your life time. You’re training your mind to explore possibilities and to “verbalize” or visualize the things that you want so it becomes second nature. Keep it up! Great meeting you in Burbank! – Peace and prosperity, Paula
Hi Paula,
I have a question about the type of business (see links below) that claim they can clear up your credit by using attorneys to represent you. I have not looked deep into this, but was approaced by a friend, who thought I might be interested. I know there are many companies out there that are scams, but how are they able to advertise openly about a service that may or may not be a scam? I would love to have my credit cleared up faster, but not sure if this is legal. Please advise.

Hi Pat,
Great question! First and foremost: EVERYTHING a credit restoration company does for you, you can do for yourself. I walk you through that in Bounce Back From Bankruptcy. AND, I know many people don’t want the emotional drain or hassle of dealing with their credit reports and creditors themselves. They would rather have an expert who knows the way creditors act and what they say and what they mean by it. They want someone who can tell when something a creditor says is a true hard fact and when it’s a statement designed to manipulate you into doing something.
That’s when a credit restoration expert can come in handy. We do a great deal of credit restoration work for bankruptcy attorneys and their clients and we do it for people who find out about our work independently as well. We don’t heavily advertise the service, but people flock to us because they know we have nearly 20 years of expertise in the area, and we’re very much consumer-friendly – our goal is to help people get the best start possible after their bankruptcy. That means making sure everything that is being reported on your credit report, post-bankruptcy, is listed in the most favorable light possible.
When it comes to fees for credit restoration work, the fees vary. There really shouldn’t be any reason to pay more than $1000 for this kind of assistance. The National Credit Federation link you list below shows that their fee is a set up fee of basically $150 plus a monthly fee of just under $100 for an entire year. So you’re paying $1,350 and that’s assuming that it only takes one year to get it done. And they don’t detail what the work is they do for you. The first link, doesn’t even give any indication of what they charge or what specifically they do for you.
Most of the attorneys we work with charge between $600-$800 to update the information on your credit reports, so it’s correctly reported to all 3 major credit bureaus. We also update the information on your 4th major credit report, which is issued by Innovis. The goal is to make sure that everything that was included in your bankruptcy is being reported correctly on your credit reports and that any negative credit information is being reported in the best possible light.
We also do this service directly for our clients for $495. Our fee includes having an attorney draft a power of attorney giving us the right to negotiate and make corrections on your behalf. If any creditors drag their feet on making the appropriate changes, our fee includes having our attorneys draft letters and – if necessary – sue the creditor for damages for not correcting your credit report in a timely fashion, as required by law.
Not knowing what your friend’s service is offering, I will share these last few tips about this topic:
1. Don’t hire anyone who says they can legally remove your bankruptcy or other true, negative information from your credit report.
2. Don’t hire anyone who charges more than $1,000 to have the information on your credit report updated or corrected. Nothing they are doing is worth that kind of money.
3. Make sure you hire someone with a history of expertise in the field; which includes trusted debtors rights attorneys. With our firm, for example, you’re hiring a credit restoration specialist, and we our general counsel and local lawyers to handle the legal details for you.
4. Make sure you now EXACTLY what your money is buying you. For example, when you hire us for credit restoration services, you’re retaining us to update your information. You give us power of attorney to pull your bankruptcy petition and your credit reports and to communicate with the credit bureaus and creditors and negotiate on your behalf to have the proper changes made to your credit reports. You may need to forward documents to us as they are sent to you, but other than that, we handle all the details. You should look for the same in-depth service from any other credit restoration company and you should be comfortable with the actions they are taking on your behalf.
Hope that helps!
Peace and prosperity,
Paula
